While studying ceramics at loughborough I started making my work in Raku as a way to finish my work. It was exciting, direct and I could manage the process myself.
I still use this way of making and I find it an exciting method of working. Each piece is hand built using coils, colours are added when the pieces are raw and then each piece is bisque fired . After this they are Glazed and Raku fired.

The glaze is one I've developed over the years to give a lovely crackle finish. The Kiln is a 20 cubic foot Top hat kiln which I constructed to my own design. A custom made steel drum, lined with ceramic fibre , with pulley and weight system to lift the top hat from the fire box. Fired with Stedmark gas burners.
